| Bio: | I grew up in Texas mostly, but spent a lot of my childhood in North Carolina. My parents are from there and most of my extended family still lives there. Pick a decent sized town and I'll bet I've got at least a cousin who lives there. All of my grandparents have passed away, but most of my Aunts and Uncles are still around. And the number of cousins (including their children, and now their grandchildren) is staggering. Almost 60 at my last count. My parents are still married, more than 35 years now. My father, Van, is an engineer and consultant dealing with oil field instrumentation and contorls. If you want to know what that is, ask because I'm not going to write all that. My mother, Bettie, is a college student. Yup. A college student. She went back to school at age 61. GO MOM! I have one brother, Van 2, younger by 4 1/2 years. He lives in Denver with my sister-in-law, Jen. Van 2 manages a warehouse for a string of bicycle and ski shops. Jen is a financial consultant for a private firm. She likes math. Weird, huh? They got married in the summer of 2004 in her hometown. I'm relativley useless. I go to school and work at the family business where I mostly feel useless because of the fact the shop manager hates me and my feelings for him run as close to hate as I can get. I'm a jack of all trades and master of none. The older I get the more I think I need to master a few, only being able to do half of something doesn't mix well with only being able to complete half a thought before I'm off to something else. Quite a few of the things I list about myself fall into the "not a master" category, but I like to do them and I'm happy with not being badass at them. The "Tell Us About Yourself" line I fill out on things goes like this... I think people have trouble understanding me. While I am apparently physically unable to commit to a serious relationship, I do the crossword puzzle every day. In pen. I don't finish the weekend ones, though. I'm learning to play the guitar finally. I can knit, crochet, and sew. I can sew you up, as long as you don't need to be numbed... Ouch. I can build and install your cabinets. I can roof your house, but you'd have to pay me a lot to do it these days. I can fix your RV plumbing. I read a lot. Anything you give me, the newspaper, a magazine, a book, the information panel on a tube of toothpaste, doesn't matter what it is. Toothpaste is technically poisonous you know... I hate movies where the kids find their dad and the old people realize life is good again. My favorite movie is Dune, the deLaurentis Version. I don't eat raw tomatoes, squash, beef, bananas, soft bread, or chicken salad. I know at this point I don't like them. I HATE CHRISTMAS. I love Halloween. I do like cheese, and Raisin Bran, and mustard. I like underwear, which I guess is weird these days. I'm a neurotic list maker. I've had Lasik on my eyeballs. I have the video of it, its cool. I've had several surgeries for endometriosis, so I've got pictures of my internal organs. They're cool too. I have a demon dog and a cat. I don't like kids. Really. And I don't want any. Really. I don't like beer. Or cake. Or squash, the vegetable and the silly game. I collect cacti and succulents. I make pottery, mostly non-functional stuff. I call them VOCOs. I love Dadaist sculpture and wish I knew how to weld better. I like people who aren't easily impressed. I never play dumb. I see the fine line between your business and not your business. I see the fine line between being sarcastic and sardonic. It isn't very fine actually. I have a VERY strong personality, if you're intimidated by that, run the other direction. I prefer e-mail to phone calls. I have always wanted to live a life like Hemingway (except for that last bit with the shotgun), Teddy Roosevelt (except for that being president bit), or Picasso (except for that pompous ass bit). They were my childhood idols. Adventure, lots of love and heartache, the wild outdoors, the continent, twelve-toed cats and all. And maybe a look-alike contest after I'm dead. Most days I'm scared to death. I just hide it well. I am fiercely loyal, sometimes stupidly so. And my ears are burning... | |||||
